Biography & Professional Profile
Prof. Dr. Khadiga Gaafar is a prominent academic and researcher in the Department of Zoology at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University. Specializing in physiology and Laboratory Animal Science, she has dedicated over 40 years to research, ethical leadership, and scientific standardisation.
She earned her Ph.D. in Physiology from Cairo University in 1984. She has been a pioneer in establishing institutional ethics committees, serving as the Chairperson of the first IACUC at Faculty of Science, Cairo University (2012–2014) and later as the Chairperson of the Cairo University Ethics Committee for the Use of Experimental Animals in Teaching and Scientific Research since 2014.
International Achievements
Dr. Gaafar represents Egypt as a key committee member of the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS) Africa Regional Committee. She also serves as the President of the Egyptian German Society of Zoology and has spearheaded numerous collaborative training courses with European and international bodies to promote the Three Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement).
